On Sunday, 22 March, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Western Division hosted a Development Day at Earlswood Training Centre.

Designed to strengthen operational skills and support collaborative working, the day brought together personnel from Carmarthen, Tumble, Newcastle Emlyn, Milford Haven, Narberth and Pontyates.

Throughout the day, crews took part in a range of realistic training scenarios, including house fires with persons reported and multi-vehicle road traffic collisions, kitchen fires and line rescue exercises.

Support staff also took part as role players, acting as casualties and members of the public to help create realistic incident conditions and enable crews to practice the types of situations they may encounter.

To conclude the day, all crews took part in a large-scale car fire scenario, involving a vehicle located inside a garage attached to a property, with people reported inside. Crews worked together as they would at a real incident to contain the fire and rescue those within the property.

The day was a great success, enabling crews to strengthen their operational capabilities, work closely with colleagues from other stations and share specialist skills across the Service.
