Firefighters at Aberystwyth Fire Station took part in a realistic road traffic collision (RTC) training exercise on Thursday, October 22nd, designed to strengthen and refine the skills needed when responding to serious incidents on our roads.

The simulated collision involved multiple vehicles and casualties requiring immediate care, providing crews with the opportunity to practise the complex techniques used during real-life emergencies.

During the exercise, Firefighters carried out a range of specialist extrication methods, including cutting and spreading vehicle panels, glass management, and peeling back sections of trim to identify hidden cabling and gas canisters.  These techniques are essential for safely and efficiently reaching trapped casualties while minimising further risk of injury.

Regular training exercises like this help Firefighters maintain the high level of operational readiness required to respond to road traffic collisions.  By continually developing their skills in realistic scenarios, crews are better prepared to protect their communities, provide life-saving assistance, and ensure the best possible outcome for those involved in emergencies.
