Private Water Supplies During Drought Conditions

With a drought declared across the whole of Wales, some households that rely on private water supplies may be experiencing difficulties.

While Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) appreciates the impact this can have, we are not able to provide water supplies to private properties.  The water carried on fire engines and other operational vehicles is intended for firefighting purposes and is not suitable for drinking or household consumption.

Increased Risk of Wildfires

Recent large-scale wildfires across north and south-east Wales have highlighted just how dry our landscapes have become.

These prolonged dry conditions significantly increase the risk of wildfires.  Arson and deliberate fire-setting are serious criminal offences, which can put lives in danger and cause significant damage to property and the environment. 

The Wales Wildfire Board is working collaboratively to prevent, control and contain wildfires across Wales through its #WildfireWise campaign.

MAWWFRS is urging everyone to take extra care and follow these safety measures to avoid destructive wildfires and placing additional pressure on the emergency services and resources:

• Avoid lighting fires in the open, particularly during the current dry conditions
• Never leave campfires, fire pits or barbecues unattended
• Ensure all fires, barbecues and disposable grills are completely extinguished before leaving the area
• Do not discard cigarettes, matches or smoking materials on the ground or from vehicle windows
• Take all litter home, particularly glass bottles, which can concentrate sunlight and increase fire risk
• Report signs of wildfire immediately by calling 999 and asking for the Fire and Rescue Service
• If you see suspicious behaviour or deliberate fire-setting, report it to the Police
